So, What is a Veterinary Cardiologist?

Cardiology is the clinical specialty that handles the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the heart and large blood vessels. The American College of Veterinary Medicine (ACVIM), Specialty of Cardiology is the governing body of Cardiology in veterinary medicine. As such, ACVIM is responsible for establishing training requirements, accrediting training programs, and certifying veterinary cardiologists. A board certified veterinary cardiologist is recognized by Diplomate ACVIM (Cardiology) following their DVM degree. To become board certified, a licensed veterinarian must complete a minimum of 3 years of advanced, accredited training in Cardiology after completion of veterinary school and then must pass a series of rigorous examinations administered through the ACVIM. MedVet Cardiologist, Dr. Linda Lehmkuhl has served as a member and then chair of the ACVIM cardiology examination committee in past years. MedVet's Cardiology Department is an accredited residency-training program.
