Cardiology
Scheduling an Appointment
Appointments can be scheduled Monday through Friday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm. If you
find it necessary to change or cancel your appointment, please call to let us know as
soon as possible.
To schedule an appointment you can call 614-431-4428.
It is recommended that you discuss with your primary veterinarian your intent on bringing your pet to MedVet.
Most pets referred for specialized services at our facility are then referred back to your primary
veterinarian for follow-up care.
The MedVet team manages those pets requiring ongoing specialized care. This
can be accomplished by follow-up visits at our facility or by follow-up phone or fax
consultations between your veterinarian and the MedVet Cardiologist.
What to Bring
On your first evaluation, it is very important to bring all pertinent medical materials
for review by the Cardiologist. This prevents unnecessary repetition of previously performed
tests. Your primary veterinarian will provide you with a MedVet referral sheet summarizing your
pet's medical history, copies of recent blood work, recent radiographs (X-rays) and/or ECG's.
These materials will be reviewed and returned to your primary veterinarian.
If your pet is being medicated, please bring ALL medications with you.
What to Expect
Initially, a detailed medical history will be obtained by one of our technicians. The
cardiologist will conduct a thorough cardiovascular physical examination and also review all
previous medical records and diagnostics. Any additional diagnostic testing that is necessary
will be discussed with you and is typically performed during the same visit. An echocardiogram
is performed on most patients.
After your pet's medical work-up is completed, we will have a thorough discussion of
their problem including the cause and severity, symptoms to watch for in the future, and a
comprehensive treatment plan. Additionally, we will arrange follow-up care and address any
questions you may have at the conclusion of your visit.
Your initial visit will last approximately 60 to 90 minutes. Every attempt is made to stay
on schedule; however, emergencies are given priority so occasional delays, while unfortunate and
infrequent, are unavoidable.
Following your visit, you and your primary veterinarian will receive
a discharge summary detailing your pets' clinical findings, diagnosis, and treatment recommendations.
